National Contests Final 2016
Date:               1st to 3rd April 2016
Location:        An Grianán
At this final we will hold the competitions for the Patsy Lawlor Cup and Shield for Set Dancing, the Eleanora Gibbon Shield for Music, the Baumann Shield for Music and the National Table Quiz Final.
PLEASE NOTE COMPETITION NUMBERS 7, 8, 9 and 10 are OPEN GUILD COMPETITIONS.
 
  1. GEM PACK Baking Competition National Final - 12th March 2016
The GEM PACK Baking Competition Final will be held at the 1916 Anniversary Celebrations in An Grianán on Saturday 12th March 2016.  
The competition is for a Simnel Cake (maximum size 20cm or 8 inches)   One cake per Federation.   Proof of Gempack purchases is required at Federation and National Competitions.
The names of the Federation winners and the recipes used must be submitted to National Contest Secretary, Breda Banville by Tuesday 1st March 2016.
 
The Federation Winners will be invited to come to An Grianán on Saturday 12th March 2016.  Registration of the entries will take place at 10.30am.  Tea and coffee at 11am followed by a Cookery Demonstration.   All meals, accommodation on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday will be sponsored by GEM PACK. There will be entertainment on the Saturday evening.
 
  1. Creative Writing Competition - Closing Date: Thursday 31st March 2016.
Title: A short story on the theme of the 1916 Rising which must include the words "I was there..." (maximum 2,000 words, word count must be stated).

  1. ICA Trophy for Reporting Closing Date: 31st March 2016
A newspaper article with the heading "Challenges of Living in Ireland in 2016"   The report should be approx. 700 words.

  1. Inter Federation Cup for Art - Photography Closing Date: 19th February 2016
Title: "Family Pet"
Two categories:          Black & White and Colour
Size of Photograph      5x7 inches 13 x 18 cm - unmounted.
Photographs entered must have been taken by the entrant.

 5. Baumann Cup for Art Closing Date: 18th March 2016
Art: Painting - "A Bowl of Fruit"
Unmounted and unframed (Acrylics) with no Size Restriction.    Please send entry marked "Baumann Art" to National Contest Secretary, Breda Banville, Camross, Foulksmills, Co Wexford. Please include your name, address, telephone number, email address, Guild and Federation on a separate sheet of paper and submit with your entry.  Please include stamped self-addressed envelope for return.  No details of entrant on painting.

6. National Table Quiz Final - 2nd April 2016
  • Table of three participants
  • Entry fee €30 euro at Federation round.
  • Out of the entry fees for the table quiz we are asking Federations to pay for dinner B&B for their winning team to attend the National Final at An Grianán on Saturday 2nd April 2016 at 2pm.   Lunch on 2nd April is not included.  Winners must make their own arrangements for lunch.
  • Total cost €240 Euro
  • There will be ten rounds with ten questions in each round at the national final. One round will be about ICA.   One of the rounds will be a picture round.
Please send names of winning team and cheque made payable to ICA Contests to National Contest Secretary, Breda Banville, Camross, Foulksmills, Co Wexford marked "National Table Quiz" before 18th March 2016 including contact numbers and email addresses.  Please make cheques payable to ICA Contests.
 
7. Patsy Lawlor Cup for Set Dancing - Full Set (OPEN GUILD COMPETITION) 3rd April 2016
Teams will be required to dance two figures of their chosen set.
Marching on and off floor not permitted.  Dancing shoes (jig, hornpipe, batter) not permitted. Uniforms will not gain extra marks / Teams need not all be from the same Guild.
No Entry Fee / Bring your own music on CD or Tape and Player for the National Final.
Please send entry details marked "Patsy Lawlor Cup - Full Set" which should include the names of sets being danced, Guild, contact name, address, telephone number and email address to National Contest Secretary, Breda Banville, Camross, Foulksmills, Co Wexford not later than 18th March 2016.   National Final on Sunday morning 3rd April 2016.
 
8. Patsy Lawlor Shield for Set Dancing - Half Set (OPEN GUILD COMPETITION) 3rd April 2016
Teams will be required to dance two figures of their chosen set.
Marching on and off floor not permitted.   Dancing shoes (jig, hornpipe, batter) not permitted.
Uniforms will not gain extra marks.   Teams need not all be from the same Guild.
No Entry Fee / Bring your own music on CD or Tape and Player for the National Final.

Theme: Two Songs (one song with a lady's name and one song with the word "love")
Group of 4 - 15 singers (need not all be from same Guild)
Accompanist need not be an ICA member but all singers must be paid up members.
Total in Group including conductor and accompanist to be no more than 16 people.
No backing tracks allowed.  Costumes will not gain marks.  No entry fee.

10.  Eleanora Gibbon Shield for Music (OPEN GUILD COMPETITION)
Theme: Two songs as Gaeilge (in Irish)
Group of 4 - 15 singers (need not all be from the same Guild)
Accompanist need not be an ICA member but all singers must be paid up members.
Total in Group including conductor and accompanist to be no more than 16 people.
No backing tracks allowed.  Costumes will not gain marks. No entry fee.

Suas go dtí 700 focail (up to 700 words). Closing date: Friday 19th February 2016.

12. Inter Federation Cup for Crafts Closing Date: 31st March 2016
Craft: "Gingham Embroidery/Chicken Scratch. A homemade half apron, machine or hand sewn with a minimum 3 inch border of Chicken Scratch across the bottom of the apron.

Please forward completed entry form and cheque with items to Central Office.   Judging will take place at Handcraft Week.   Items can be collected from Central Office after that week.   Please include a stamped self-addressed envelope for return of items if so wished.  Trophy will be presented at the National AGM in May 2016.
 
 
MEMORIAL HANDCRAFT TROPHY
This trophy is presented at Handcraft Week in An Grianan.
The craft chosen for the Award in 2016 is as follows:
 
Article in Mountmellick Embroidery - article of your choice with your own design 12ins x 12ins minimum excluding fringe.
This competition is not open to Handcraft Teachers.
Entry Fee: €5.00 - Please make cheques payable to ICA.
 
Please include a large stamped addressed padded envelope for return of entry.
 
Closing date for Entries will be 18th March 2016 and all entries to be forwarded to Central Office, 58 Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.  Alternatively, members attending Handcraft Week can bring their entries together with their entry fee to An Grianán.    All entries will be judged during Handcraft Week.
